Rob Cressy’s Guide To Being A Content Creator
Welcome to Rob Cressy’s Guide To Being A Content Creator.
My mission in life is to be happy doing what I love.
I love creating, growing, learning, engaging, having fun, and making smiles happen.
It’s why I do what I do.
How I do it is the purpose of this article.
I create in many different ways, both online and offline.
Because that’s what’s expected out of brands and creators now.
To be able to keep up with the always changing digital landscape and attention graph.
To make sure that the message comes across in a fun and engaging way, wherever the audience may be, in an authentic manner.
These are the different ways that I create content.
I figured the best way to get the party started was to throw together a whole bunch of awesome stuff I’ve created into a 1-minute highlight reel video. From writing, show hosting and podcasting, to photography & video and editing, to throwing and covering events, this encompasses it all.
Now let’s break this bad boy down specifically, to show the different ways that I create content.
Kevin Durant shocks the world and decides to sign with the Golden State Warriors. The first thing that pops in my head is the heel turn that Hulk Hogan did to form nWo.
To help build out this “Kevin Durant turns heel” world, I use Photoshop and Final Cut Pro X to create a video mashup where I channel my inner Nic Cage and have everyone switch faces.
I don’t know what to call this form of content creating other than Photoshopping Faces Onto Videos.
Sometimes I like to play with slow motion because it looks cool and allows me to tell a story in a unique way.
I love creating on Snapchat. It’s fun, engaging, and there are no limits to where my creativity can go.
If you click the image above it’ll take you to all of the different ways that I creatively use Snapchat. There’s so many creative Snapchat tips that I had to create an entire page for it. As the platform continues to evolve I’ll continue to update it.
If you are on Snapchat hit me up @baconsports and say what’s up.
I currently write and host three of them out of my home studio. Each of them unique, dealing with a topic that I’m passionate about.
Bacon Sports Podcast: sports comedy and real time sports topics. Published over 220 episodes.
Rob Cressy Show: conversations with talented entrepreneurs, marketers, and creatives about their excellence with the goal of inspiring, educating, and entertaining.
Sports Marketing Huddle: gives actionable insight on real time sports marketing topics. Published over 200 episodes. Was implemented in the course curriculum for three Universities sports marketing classes. You can check out the case study about it HERE.
What I love about podcasting is the ability to speak to your audience in a very personal and engaging manner. There’s less noise than other mediums, and it’s much more content rich.
From start to finish I can get an entire podcast episode recorded, edited, published, and promoted in less than 2 hours.
Live show hosting, script writing, producing
I love being behind the mic, but I also enjoy being in front of the camera. I’ve written, produced, and hosted over 100 live streaming shows, which averaged about 45 minutes per episode. You can check out the case study on it HERE.
I shot this out of my home studio which has lighting, a green screen, and everything you’d need to produce a high quality show.
With the way social media has evolved, being able to have your audience interact with you is so important towards building your brand.
I want every event that I throw to be unlike anything anyone has ever experienced before. Because of that I add about a million extra doses of fun and awesomeness to every event I create (Note: really, at least a million.)
I also know that the execution has to be spot on so my attention to detail is immaculate.
The above video is from the Bacon, Sports & Beer Celebration that I threw at Union Station, which was attended by over 700 bacon loving, jersey rocking, sports fans and 60 companies.
I can create and run events of all sizes that will completely engage your audience and delivering an unreal brand experience.
As much fun as it is to throw an event, I have even more fun covering events and sharing my experience.
My style is to mix together photos and videos, so that I can tell the story in multiple ways, and then I’ll follow it up with a podcast. That way I can paint the best picture possible of what went down.
I’ve been a creative writer for the last 18 years of my life. Over that time my writing style, tone, and topics have changed, but what has never changed is my love of writing.
From writing podcast and live show scripts, to articles on marketing, sports, entrepreneurship, pop culture, and comedy. My knowledge is as deep as the passion that runs in me.
You can check out more of my writing at:
- Bacon Sports – engaged over 1 million sports fans via original sports comedy content.
- Cress Media blog – digital, entrepreneurship and marketing content.
Photography & Video
Everywhere I go I’m always creating content, documenting the awesomeness that I see and experience. To do this here’s the equipment that I use.
Nikon D5200 – cover sporting events, music festivals, cool things I see, business.
Ghost Drone – for jaw dropping aerial views
My GoPro Hero3+ is great for on-the-go shooting, time-lapse, and…
Cage diving with great white sharks in South Africa. It was an incredible experience that I highly recommend to anyone.
I’ve studied improv and comedy writing at Second City for the last four years. As part of my journey I thought it would be fun to take voiceover classes. It seemed very complimentary to the podcasting and show hosting that I do.
The video above is from one of the voiceover gigs I booked.
I have always enjoyed sharing knowledge with others so recently I learned how to create an online course. I took the comedy writing knowledge I acquired from Second City and turned it into 10 easily digestible video lessons (totaling 30 minutes) so that other can learn how to write higher quality, funnier joke, easier.
As a special shout out to those of you who made it this far, shoot me an email and I’ll give you free access to the course.
Thanks for taking the time to understand the different ways that I create. If you are looking for a content creator, marketer, brand ambassador, or a creative ass person to work with then drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org or hit me up on Skype at: RobCressy.
